"A timeless classic from Domaines Barons de Rothschild"
"The very pure nose of Carmes de Rieussec, reminiscent of candied apricot, heralds a liqueur that is both fresh and ripe. A very smooth Sauternes, which leaves a slightly sticky sensation. The finish regains its liveliness, with beautiful notes of candied lemon. (Le Guide de la Revue du Vin de France 2021) - A fine achievement for a second wine, which will give real pleasure when tasted!

Eye
Beautiful golden color with sparkle
Nose
It already surprises with its delicacy. The barrel aging is still present but blends perfectly with notes of apricot and candied melon.
Mouth
Light attack, then the wine takes on a good amplitude to gradually fill the entire mouth. It is not marked by the often excessive heat of the vintage. The finish is long and precise.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Rieussec, one of the jewels in the Rothschild estate crown, sometimes suffers unfairly from its distribution policy, which overshadows the nobility of its terroir adjacent to Yquem and the perfectionism of its production. The wine impresses with its power and richness without lacking freshness, thanks to exemplary technical mastery of bottling. The remarkable aging of the 1988, 1989, and 1990 vintages should silence any criticism. The second wine, Carmes, is not demagogic and offers all the richness one would expect from this type of soil, with faster development in the bottle.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Formerly part of the Carmelite convent in Langon, Château Rieussec is located on high ground to the west of the commune of Fargues, where it is the only Premier Cru. Its square tower dominates a gravelly hilltop at the same height as its immediate neighbor, Yquem. Its solid reputation earned it the rank of Premier Cru Classé in 1855. Numerous owners succeeded one another at its helm until 1984, when it was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite in Pauillac). This acquisition brought significant technical, financial, and human resources to this vast 90-hectare estate, 72 of which are planted with vines.

Wine rating (2019 guide) 89-91/100 (Outstanding wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About wine:
Pale lemon gold in color, Carmes de Rieussec 2018 is a little youthful and quiet at first, offering hints of lemon meringue pie, lime cordial, and beeswax, with touches of baked bread and marzipan. The palate is attractively rich and bursting with layers of citrus and spice, with a long, honeyed finish.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About wine:
The very pure nose of Carmes de Rieussec, reminiscent of candied apricot, heralds a liqueur that is both fresh and ripe. A very smooth Sauternes, which leaves a slightly sticky sensation. The finish regains its liveliness, with lovely notes of candied lemon.
About the estate:
A premier cru classé located in the commune of Fargues, Rieussec has always displayed a unique personality, with wines that are sometimes very powerful and rich in liqueur. When the wines are young, noble rot produces aromas that are slightly less refined than elsewhere, but aging compensates for this slight drawback with beautiful sweet flavors. While Rieussec may have disappointed in high-yield vintages, the level has been adjusted in more recent vintages. The 2013 and 2015 vintages vigorously express a fresher and more delicate style. This is a development to be followed closely.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2019 guide) 90-91/100
About wine:
A lovely second wine from Rieussec with a creamy character of cooked pear and apple. A hint of soufflé too. Medium-bodied, moderately sweet, and a fresh finish.
Jean-Marc Quarin
Wine rated (2021 guide) 89/100
About wine:
Pale, bright color. Intense, fruity, subtle, and creamy nose. Melt-in-the-mouth texture with a graceful touch. The finish is slightly thicker, with a hint of bitterness. Normal length.
