Château Rieussec
Classified as a Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac in 1855, Château Rieussec is now part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) and receives the utmost care both in the vineyard and in the cellar to produce one of the appellation’s leading wines.

Adjacent to Château d’Yquem, Château Rieussec is one of the largest estates in Sauternes and Barsac, with vineyards covering 93 hectares of sandy-clay gravel soils. The Sémillon grape variety dominates (90%), alongside Sauvignon and Muscadelle. Cultivated in the Sauternes tradition, the vines receive the utmost care, and the harvest is carried out in several successive passes depending on the ripeness of the grapes and the development of botrytis (noble rot).

The cellars of Château Rieussec are located in Fargues, at the heart of the vineyard. Each vintage is aged in oak barrels sourced from the Tonnellerie des Domaines, with half of the barrels replaced each year. Barrel aging varies by vintage from 16 to 26 months, during which time the wines are periodically racked, with bottling taking place at the Château.
