Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze
The Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is a Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits region of Côte-d'Or, exclusively limited to the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. Clos de Bèze entered history in 640. It remained the property of the Burgundian abbey until 1219, when it was ceded to the canons of Langres until 1789. Chambertin shares the imperial crown with Clos de Bèze: it has been known by this name since the 13th century. The Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze appellation was recognized as a Grand Cru by decree on July 31, 1937.
The Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru route is located on the great slope that runs from Gevrey-Chambertin to Morey-Saint-Denis between the Lavaux and Morey valleys. This long hillside rests on hard rock: a few dozen centimeters of brown soil, derived from silt and gravelly scree on the upper part, limestone with varying clay content on the slope. The Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru vineyard, limited to 14.5 hectares, is planted between 240 and 280 meters above sea level, with an eastern exposure. The production of Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze is limited to some 60,000 bottles per year.
Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They have a bright red color, ranging from dark ruby to black cherry. On the palate, power, opulence, and elegance combine to create a full-bodied and complex wine, full of sap and voluptuous flesh, destined to be aged for at least 10 years. The wines offered by Domaine Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine Dominique Laurent, Domaine Faiveley, and Maison Bouchard Père et Fils demonstrate the exceptional quality of the Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze appellation.
