Mâcon-Pierreclos
The Mâcon-Pierreclos Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a municipal appellation located in the Saône-et-Loire department and recognized as a distinct category within the regional appellation. Recognized in 1937, the Mâcon-Pierreclos AOC covers the single municipality of Pierreclos, located east of Mâcon.

The vineyards producing Mâcon-Pierreclos wines benefit from brown limestone or calcareous soils—shallow or deep, clayey or sandy—often mixed with silica pebbles. The Mâcon-Pierreclos vineyards are planted at altitudes ranging from 100 to 400 meters. The Mâcon region enjoys a semi-continental climate with Mediterranean influences.

The grape varieties used for Mâcon-Pierreclos wines are Chardonnay for white wines, Gamay noir à jus blanc (the region is close to Beaujolais), and Pinot Noir for red wines. Domaine Guffens-Heynen offers a most enjoyable introduction to the Mâcon-Pierreclos appellation.
