"This wine is the essence of the Devillard family's five premier crus (they also vinify them separately). It brings out the unmistakable Mercurey: rich, generous, and with ripe red fruit. The tannins are there to allow this impressive wine to age. Drink from 2022." (Wine Enthusiast 2017). Taking advantage of the great 2010 vintage, the Devillard family decided to create this grand cuvée called "Les Cinq" by selecting the best parts of the estate's five red Premier Crus. Rated estate (2025 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About wine:
Produced in five different climates, its complexity is perfectly expressed in its elegance, and it has excellent aging potential.
About the estate:
The Devillard family has expanded beyond the borders of Burgundy by acquiring the Rolet estate in the Jura region. In Mercurey, the Château de Chamirey remains their largest Burgundy property, with 37 hectares, including 15 hectares of premier cru vineyards. The estate also offers a unique table d'hôte dining experience in the heart of the hamlet. A skilled technical team, with the arrival of a new cellar master, Carole Briffox, advised by oenologist Enrico Peyrone, is constantly striving to improve the work in the vineyards, vinification, and aging, always in pursuit of excellence. After a particularly successful 2017, the estate has managed to capture the full potential of the 2018 vintage, with its intensity but also its finesse. A step up in our hierarchy could be taken very soon.

About the estate:
Owned by the Devillard family, this iconic estate developed its wine-growing business in the 1930s, under the leadership of the Marquis de Jouennes. His heirs, Bertrand Devillard and his children Amaury and Aurore, now run a vast 37-hectare vineyard.

About the estate:
As I wrote previously, the Devillard family's Château de Chamirey dominates the Mercurey landscape, covering nearly 39 hectares. Fortunately, the quality of these wines now makes them a more than worthy ambassador for the appellation. Managing such a large area naturally presents challenges, but manager Enrico Peyron is to be commended for the progress he has made in adapting a large cellar to a small-scale operation. Two harvest teams, for example, now operate independently: one responsible for whites, the other for reds. The 2018 vintage, which I tasted in Beaune, turned out very well here, delivering balanced and elegant reds and charming and expressive whites.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)
About wine:
A blend of five premier cru parcels. With a complex aromatic profile, the Pinot Noir expresses itself with finesse and delicacy, more infused than extracted. The oak is not prominent, which is a good thing. However, we would have expected 2015 to have given it a little more density.
About the estate:
This majestic property in the hamlet of Chamirey has belonged to the Devillard family since 1934 and boasts a beautiful collection of plots in Mercurey, including six premiers crus. It has a tasting area and a charming, highly sought-after guesthouse with a swimming pool at the foot of the Clos du Roi vineyards. The quality of the 2019 vintage is uneven and, unfortunately, follows on from the disappointments seen with last year's 2018 wines.
