"This Mercurey Premier Cru is the 'quintessence of the Côte Chalonnaise' according to Decanter, fully expressing the character of a Pinot Noir from the Chalonnais region."

The quintessence of the Côte Chalonnaise, this classic expression of Mercurey has a deep ruby color and pleasantly pronounced aromas of ripe plum, underscored by notes of dark chocolate. The texture is firmly tannic and full-bodied, with surprising acid balance and good length. The grapes come from a 2-hectare plot facing east; they are destemmed and cold-soaked before being fermented on indigenous yeasts and aged for a year in barrels (15% new). 2025-2035" (Decanter 2024)

Intense and complex, it opens with floral scents dominated by iris and violet, intertwined with powerful notes of black fruit.

Complex, rich, and rounded, its palate perfectly embodies the classic Burgundian style of Pinot Noir, with hints of undergrowth adding to the aromas on the nose. It has undeniable aging potential that will only enhance its complexity.

Bettane and Desseauve Guide 2025 / 2024-2032

About the estate:

The Suremain estate is probably one of the most surprising in recent years. Blessed with some of the best premier cru vineyards in Mercurey, Loïc de Suremain, assisted by his parents Yves and Marie-Hélène, cultivates the estate's 18 hectares. Particular attention to respecting the terroirs results in different Mercureys with distinct characteristics and nuances. Loïc, who is passionate about viticulture, strives to develop wines with more fruit and consistency, based on a true understanding of his soils. The winery has been completely renovated and expanded, and the wines are increasingly precise and flawless in our blind tastings. The progress is remarkable and places the 2021 vintage among the top three in the appellation.
