Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This small estate is based on 8 hectares of vineyards, scattered between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune. Founded in 2009 by Olivier Decelle and Pierre-Jean Villa, it has been managed since its inception by Jean Lupatelli, a talented man who oversees the vineyard and winemaking with great insight. The estate completes its range with a few additional purchases covering the equivalent of two hectares, in historic appellations that have been monitored since the brand was created, and relying on vines harvested by the in-house teams. The 2018 reds are tender, charming, fruity and floral, clearly respecting their origins.

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in 2009 by two partners from outside Burgundy - Pierre-Jean Villa (northern Rhône Valley) and Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon, Jean Faure, Haut-Ballet, Haut-Maurac in Bordeaux) supported by their oenologist Jean Lupatelli - this Nuit-Saint-Georges-based company (wine merchant and estate) has now established a solid position in Burgundy.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Founded in 2009 by two leading figures in the wine world, Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Roussillon and Jean Faure in Saint-Émilion) and Pierre-Jean Villa, a winemaker in the northern Rhône Valley, this estate stopped buying grapes in 2017. Previously named Decelle-Villa, it became Decelle et Fils in 2020. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, it relies on its own organically grown vineyards on the slopes of Beaune and Nuits. The skilled technician Jean Lupatelli produced wines of excellent quality here, with 20 to 50% whole harvest in the reds, but he left the estate in the spring of 2021.
