Robert Parker

“The Pommard 1er Cru Les Jarollières has a reserved bouquet: tightly wrapped in notes of dried blood that infuse the dark fruit. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and a surprising texture. The oak will need a little time to fully integrate, but there is an alluring saline note that lingers in this finish with marine influences. It is a very good Pommard.” (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker)

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2017 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

On its legs, where we suspect the cork may have slightly spoiled it. Worth revisiting, as the wine is superb.

About the estate:

From La Bousse d'Or to Patrick Landanger, via the Dukes of Burgundy and Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, this estate has been home to Burgundy’s great figures for over eight centuries. One of them, Gérard Potel, brought Volnay wines to new heights from 1964 to 1997, until his sudden passing. Patrick Landanger, who acquired the estate in 1997, took the reins of the cellars himself in 1999 to carry out a series of colossal renovations, including a redesign of the vinification facility, which now operates by gravity across six floors. Since then, the estate’s wines have continued to evolve toward the pinnacle of Volnay’s femininity and an incomparably silky mouthfeel. The recent addition of Chambolle-Musigny wines from the former Moine-Hudelot estate only confirms this trend.

Rated estate (2017 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

A magnificent estate in Volnay. La Pousse d'Or owes its revival to Patrick Landanger, who has devoted significant financial and human resources to restoring the reputation of this iconic estate. He is responsible for a considerable upgrade of the winemaking facilities and the acquisition of new vineyards, particularly in the Côte de Nuits. The wines are all outstanding.
