Bourgogne Aujourd'hui
"A Pinot Noir with an assertive Burgundian style, this 1er Cru will seduce you right from the start, or can be laid down for a few years to sublimate.
Better known for its whites, Rully has some excellent surprises in store for its reds. Here we are in the Chapitre appellation (just below Les Cloux), on a beautiful parcel entirely surrounded by a high wall. It's a clos that's very typical of the region, producing a Pinot that's also very Burgundian, fine and racy. Fruit, elegance and a structure that ensures good ageing potential.

Domaine rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Domaine Jaeger-Defaix covers 6 hectares in Rully, including 4.5 in premier cru, certified organic since 2012. Hélène Jaeger-Defaix, agricultural engineer and oenologist, wife of Didier Defaix (domaine Bernard Defaix de Chablis), is at the helm. Viticulture with ploughed soils and vinification that respects the harvest as much as possible, with the aim of letting the plots express themselves, are beginning to pay off. The 2017 vintage is in top form, with classic, fine wines.

Domaine noté Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list, and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
In 2002, Hélène Jaeger first took over a parcel of Rully Premier Cru from her great-aunt Henriette Niépce - a descendant of the famous inventor - and then the entire estate in 2005. Wife of Bernard Defaix, winemaker in Chablis, she applies the principles of great wines, with tilled soils and manual harvesting. The cuvées are vinified at the fully-equipped Chablis winery; the white wines are transferred to barrel.
Burghound
Wine rated (2023 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Peppery aromas of blackcurrant liqueur, poached plum, earth and a hint of kirsch are ripe but fresh. The vibrant, medium-bodied flavors again exhibit very good volume and reasonable richness, and end with a jaw-dropping, firm, grippy finish. This wine will certainly need at least a few years of cellaring, as it is now quite compact. 2030+
