Barolet Pernot - Saint-Romain blanc 2019

One of our latest discoveries comes from an estate whose history dates back to the late... 16th century! But a whole new generation has decided to better showcase this lovely heritage of vineyards, and already in its first two vintages (2014 and 2015), the difference is noticeable: the wines are more precise, with oak notes that, while certainly still improving, are better integrated. One to watch and support, with a particular fondness for the old vines of Saint-Romain, which offer value for money that’s hard to beat. The reds, made from whole grapes using sound winemaking practices, still have room to improve in terms of fruit quality—particularly an ideally situated Beaune-Teurons.

Awarded a star last year, this cuvée—a blend from plots totaling 3.50 ha—performs even better in its 2019 vintage and earns a “ Favorite.” The nose, very elegant, balances the oak from aging (40% new barrels) with citrus aromas. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and generous, finding a refreshing crispness in its long, tangy finish. A remarkable harmony.

André Barolet settled on the estate in 1947 and married Huguette Pernot 10 years later. In 1985, Didier joined the business, and together they expanded retail sales to individual customers while establishing a tasting room. In 2015, Romain, Didier’s son, joined them at the estate, which now spans 14 hectares across six appellations.
