Saint-Romain
The Saint-Romain Appellation in Côte de Beaune

The Saint-Romain Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), created in 1947, is concentrated exclusively in the commune of Saint-Romain, in the prestigious Côte de Beaune region of the Côte d'Or. This appellation allows wines to mention their specific climate of origin, such as Pouillange, La Perrière, Sous le Château, among others. Notably, red wines from this appellation can also claim the Côte de Beaune appellation.

Terroir and exposure of Saint-Romain vineyards

Situated on gentle slopes benefiting from optimal sunshine, the Saint-Romain vineyard flourishes on a marly limestone terroir enriched with clay veins ideal for growing Chardonnay. The vines benefit from varied exposure, from south/southeast to north/northeast, at altitudes ranging from 280 to 400 meters.

Characteristics and ageing potential of Saint-Romain wines

The red wines of Saint-Romain, characterized by a ruby color and black cherry notes, evolve after a few years towards aromas of ripe fruit, spices and smoke, supported by fine, elegant tannins. They are distinguished by their ability to be enjoyed young, while offering a potential ageing potential of around a decade. The white wines are pale gold in color with green highlights, revealing a pronounced minerality on the palate that softens with age to reveal a mellow texture, as in the cuvées of Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson.
