"A floral and elegant Viré-Clessé that delicately expresses the terroir!"

The 2023 Viré-Clessé was fermented and aged in large oak barrels, stainless steel vats, and demi-muids. It is more discreet on the nose: pressed white flowers mixed with crushed stone, with just a hint of wild mint in the background, perhaps also fennel. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively attack, more saline and spicy than the previous vintage, with a distant mineral note in the background. Promising. 2025-2032" (Vinous 2025)

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious production, recommendable, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

The Mont Épin estate is the second estate owned by brothers Richard and Stéphane Martin, of Croix Sénaillet de Davayé, acquired in 2015 and whose vineyards are located around Mont Épin. It comprises 15 hectares divided into four terroirs and two appellations, Mâcon-Péronne (seven hectares) and Viré-Clessé. The estate is in the process of converting to organic farming in line with the philosophy at Davayé, and the wines are available in two vintages in Péronne and two in Viré-Clessé, with a rather charming style thanks to the ripe harvest. These wines are perfect for gastronomy.
