Released in spring 2013, the 2004 offers a more classic Dom Pérignon style than the very ripe 2003. 2004 was a year of abundant volume, which many treated superficially, producing simply fruity champagnes. Richard Geoffroy preferred to give the vintage gravity, rigor, and rectitude, with a dominant citrus flavor and grapefruit seeds (thiol reduction). This 2004 profile, with subtle bitterness (53% Pinot, 47% Chardonnay), is especially suited to the table and seafood cuisine, particularly Japanese. Wine rated (2015 guide) 18/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About wine:

Very elegant, tender, and delicate, this 2004 is a refined and immediately appealing Dom Pérignon, with an energy that asserts itself serenely.

About the estate:

Dom Pérignon is the most widely distributed and therefore best-known prestige Champagne in the world. The emotions it evokes stem primarily from the extraordinary quality of the hundreds of hectares of Grand Cru vineyards that form the inimitable core of its blends. The surgical expertise of the house and its cellar master Vincent Chaperon achieves an ideal balance between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both the white and rosé undergo a unique aging process, with different phases (called "plénitudes") offering flavors that are as brilliant as they are diverse. Work is underway in Hautvilliers, the birthplace of the cuvée, to rebuild the historic cellar of Dom Pérignon, who would certainly be proud of today's wines.

About wine:

The ultimate prestige champagne, named in honor of the "father of champagne." Responsible for the vineyard and cellar of Hautvillers Abbey, Dom Pérignon not only invented the champagne method, he also demonstrated his mastery of the art of blending, which is what makes great vintages. His distant successor, since the 1990s, is Richard Geoffroy from Vertus. The composition of Dom Pérignon remains a secret and each vintage is a creation. All we know is that it uses Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the grands crus of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, as well as Hautvillers, in memory of Dom Pérignon. (NM)
This expressive and very elegant vintage develops tertiary aromas reminiscent of dried fruit. An already harmonious wine that deserves to age gently in the darkness of a good cellar.

About the estate:

The ultimate prestige champagne, named in honor of the "father of champagne." Responsible for the vineyard and cellar of Hautvillers Abbey, Dom Pérignon, traditionally credited with inventing the champagne method, demonstrated his mastery of the art of blending that makes great vintages. After 28 years with the house and fifteen vintages, his distant successor, Richard Geoffroy from Vertus, handed over the reins in 2019 to Vincent Chaperon, who had been working alongside him for thirteen years. Dom Pérignon is always vintage. Its composition remains a secret and each vintage is a creation. All we know is that it uses Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the grands crus of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, as well as Hautvillers (1er cru), in memory of Dom Pérignon.

About the estate:

Several years ago, Richard Geoffroy handed over the reins of the company to Vincent Chaperon, who is now responsible for continuing the legend. With its unique style, impressive consistency, and volumes that allow for widespread global distribution, Dom Pé is more than just a champagne brand: it is an emblem of French luxury and a formidable driving force for the entire region. Whether or not you are a fan of its instantly recognizable taste, with its delicate buttery and toasty notes, Dom Pérignon remains an essential reference.
