“The NIC 2010 is made from Tempranillo grapes grown on three small plots planted in 1920. It is fermented and aged for 30 months (including malolactic fermentation) in 500-liter barrels. At first, this wine is quiet, very shy, austere, and perhaps even a bit reduced, with notes of a matchbox and a milky touch. These reduced notes are similar to garlic aromas. After a long while, it opens up with black fruit, balsamic aromas of peat and graphite. The palate is powerful, with sophisticated tannins, lovely acidity, and balance—perhaps slightly rustic, but with a clear Ribera del Duero identity. It seems heavily influenced by the wood, even though the barrels used are 500L. It needs time.” (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker) A worthy successor to the superb 2009!
