"This Gran Reserva from López de Heredia offers, as always, a unique tasting experience—and is available in very limited quantities!"

“The 2005 Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia, aged for 10 years in 225-liter American oak barrels, is characterized by a complex tertiary profile. Against a backdrop of dried flowers, aged wood, forest floor, and sweet aromatic herbs, its nuanced aromas reveal notes of cola, strawberry, and delicate leather. Compact and chalky, yet graceful, it offers the classic depth and length of a Rioja. 2026–2050” (Vinous 2026)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 97+/100

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2005 Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva has a more Mediterranean profile, with aromas of fennel and thyme, a core of red fruits, a velvety and round palate, and fine, refined tannins. Compared to the Bosconia Gran Reserva, it is more austere and serious. It was made from 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, and the remainder Graciano and Mazuelo; it was fermented in old oak vats with native yeasts, then aged in those same vats as well as in well-seasoned American oak barrels for 14 years. It has a moderate alcohol content of 12.5%, a pH of 3.4, and an acidity of 6.6 grams. 23,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in November 2019. 2026–2046
