Bodega Ossian
Bodega Ossian is Javier Zaccagnini's other winery (he is already co-owner of Bodega Aalto in Ribera del Duero with Mariano Garcia). Javier Zaccagnini developed the Ossian winery project with Ismael Gozalo, with the firm intention of producing one of Spain's greatest white wines using 100% organic farming methods and century-old ungrafted vines.
They are supported in their work by Pierre Mileman, a brilliant Burgundian oenologist renowned for his great wines. Bodega Ossian is considered by many to be the best Spanish white wine. Located in Nieva (province of Segovia), in the heart of Rueda, the 30-hectare vineyard is composed of vines that are all between 100 and 200 years old. The vines date back to the pre-phylloxera period and are all ungrafted, a truly exceptional phenomenon that is almost impossible to find.
The soils at Bodega Ossian are mainly sandy, and the roots have to draw water from the clay layer more than 8 meters below the surface! The altitude, ranging from 840 to 930 meters (the highest in the entire D.O.), is a decisive factor in the microclimate of the property. The cultivation is 100% organic and fermentation is carried out using the grapes' own yeasts. Due to its exceptional character, Bodega Ossian is voluntarily classified by the Bodega team in the appellation surrounding Rueda, Castilla y León.
The great wines of Bodega Ossian are extraordinary, refined, and complex, like a great Burgundy. They are suitable for aging and deserve the positive international reviews they receive.
