Bodega Elias Mora
The Bodega Elias Mora in the D.O. Toro is run by Viki Benavides and produces spectacular wines. In 2000, Victoria Benavides took over Bodega Elias Mora, after having previously founded Bodega José Pariente in the neighboring Rueda region.
Supported by a young team with a strong female presence, she has masterfully led the estate to the highest international standards, thanks to her exceptional sensitivity and respect for native grape varieties and the terroir. The wines of Bodega Elias Mora are sought after worldwide and acclaimed by the international press.
Located between the Ruero and Hornija rivers, the Bodega Elias Mora vineyard consists of gravelly topsoil overlying brown limestone, which is low in organic matter. This allows the vines to develop vigorously and forces the roots to seek water at greater depths. The extremely continental climate, combined with low rainfall and the vineyard’s altitude (800 m on average), allows the Tinta de Toro grape to achieve the best possible balance here.
Viki and Vanessa’s extremely respectful approach to working the ungrafted vines allows the full potential of the Toro terroir to be expressed to the fullest. The great wines of Bodega Elias Mora are elegant, opulent, powerful, and generous. According to Robert Parker, they are reminiscent of Bordeaux’s Premiers Crus Classés.
