"Brilliant, radiant, magnificent and seductive, the tasters are unanimous: a sublime Barolo to be opened this year or kept for another 15 years in the cellar to reveal all its secrets".

"The 2019 Barolo is bright and vibrant in the glass, with beautiful aromatic presence and balance. Aromatic and full-bodied, with magnificent balance, the 2019 will be easy to drink and enjoy young. Crushed red fruit, blood orange, mint, cinnamon, pomegranate, cedar and sweet floral notes up front. This is a classy Barolo from Altare". (Vinous 2023)

About the wine:

Barolo 2019 is a fine new release from Elio Altare. Silvia Altare (Elio's daughter) tells me, "The 2019 vintage was easy to make, resulting in rich, bold and powerful wines. The 2018 vintage was lean and the 2017 was hot, but the 2019 is classic." This wine is made from fruit from three Barolo villages (some estate-owned and some leased), and the winemaking was straightforward, with short maceration times and few rackings, according to Silvia. The result is vinous and fruity, with plump cherries and blackberries on a textured, full-bodied approach. The wine needs a few more years of bottle age. 2025-2040

About the wine:

Still a little closed, but already very seductive with its ripe red fruit and a touch of minty oak. Complex and hedonistic at the same time. Very pretty nose and magnificent red fruit, sappy and supple, with lots of crunch and bite on the finish. Great potential. 2023-2032

About the wine:

Lovely perfume of flowers, cherries and orange peel. Medium-bodied, with firm, fine tannins. Good length. Brilliant finish. Drink after 2026, but already so attractive.
