Elio Altare Estate
Elio Altare is one of a select group of winemakers responsible for the quality excellence of Piedmontese production. Much to his father's dismay, Elio Altare turned the Barolo tradition on its head after his first trip to Burgundy, a trip that was to radically transform his approach to wine. Going against the grain at the time, he was quickly branded a "modernist". He pushed his visceral desire to improve Piedmont's wines so far that his father disinherited him, and on his father's death, Elio Altare had to buy back the estate to continue his work.

The Elio Altare estate is based in La Morra, a Barolo commune renowned for the finesse and elegance of its wines. Like the region's finest, it uses no pesticides or chemical treatments, does not seed its fermenting wines, and does not filter.

Today, the Elio Altare estate is brilliantly managed by his daughter, the bubbly Silvia, with Elio's daily support. Anyone who has had the opportunity to drink a Barolo or Langhe fromElio Altare will have fond memories that will last a lifetime. The wines are racy, elegant with absolutely fabulous silky tannins, incredible balance and freshness.
