Domaine Léon Barral
Domaine Léon Barral is located in the hamlet of Lanthéric and is run by Didier Barral, a man of conviction who settled on the estate in the early 1990s and has never ceased to seek the most authentic expression of its terroir. His viticultural approach is sustainable, designed to respect the ecosystem, foster interactions between the plant and animal kingdoms, and strengthen the vines’ immunity.
The 25-hectare vineyard of Domaine Léon Barral is rooted in schist-rich hillsides and slopes sheltered by the Cévennes foothills. The vines are carefully tended, weeded, and fertilized by a herd of Jersey cows that graze there from October through mid-April. The owner is fond of saying that “the wine begins to take shape the moment the pruning shears touch the vine to begin pruning.” The grapes are harvested by hand, and the winemaking process is designed to respect and bring out the grapes’ most authentic expression. Thanks to their quality, the wines of Domaine Léon Barral hold a prominent place on many gourmet tables.
