Mont Baudile
The Hérault department undoubtedly offers the greatest variety of wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, which account for nearly two-thirds of the production area. Within this department, there are also smaller areas to which a decree has granted specific PGI designations. Such is the case with Mont Baudile. The Mont Baudile IGP is therefore subject to the same specifications as the Hérault IGP, but it covers a geographic area limited to about a dozen municipalities at the foot of Mont Saint-Baudille.
The Hérault department forms a vast amphitheater facing the Mediterranean Sea. Protected by Mont Saint-Baudille, the Mont Baudile PGI thus enjoys a Mediterranean climate particularly conducive to viticulture. It is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters, with two rainy seasons in the fall and spring.
The wines offered under the Mont Baudile IGP are produced from traditional Mediterranean grape varieties such as Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault, and Grenache for the reds, as well as other varieties, notably Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. For the white wines of the Mont Baudile IGP, varieties include, among others, Grenache Blanc, Maccabeu, and Terret, as well as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Viognier. The Mont Baudile IGP offers wonderful wines to discover, such as those from Domaine d’Aupilhac.
