Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
"Les Creisses" refers to pebbles. Philippe Chesnelong took over this family estate in 1990. He is assisted by his cousin, Louis Mitjaville, whose reputation extends far beyond Saint-Émilion. The "Les-Brunes" cuvée generally emphasizes power, while the "Des Creisses" cuvée, which is more approachable, bursts with flavors. A truly excellent choice.

No fewer than six grape varieties, 20 days of maceration, and more than eleven months of aging result in an unclassifiable IGP—full-bodied and exceptionally rich—where intense fruit flavors (blueberries, black cherries, blackcurrants) and subtle notes of oak, cocoa, caramel, roasted flavors, and vanilla, all enveloped in sweet spices. The palate is round and deep, structured around powerful, almost creamy tannins of astonishing finesse. It lingers into a deep, full-bodied, and very harmonious finish. It’s a true feat, even just in terms of aroma! It’s also a fine illustration of the modernity of a wine that draws its roots from the Languedoc terroir, combined with the tradition and classicism of Bordeaux. Pair it with a beautiful Fleur d’Aubrac rib of beef seasoned with garrigue herbs and cooked over vine shoots. Rating: 4.4.
