Val de Montferrand
The Val de Montferrand PGI designation covers the departments of Hérault and Gard in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The production area covers 46 municipalities in the Hérault department and three municipalities in the Gard department. The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) was granted to theVal de Montferrand PGI terroir by a decree dated December 3, 2001.

Wines protected by the Val de Montferrand PGI designation are mainly made from Chardonnay, Viognier, Muscat à petits grains, and Sauvignon grapes for white wines, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Pinot Noir grapes for red and rosé wines. These grape varieties must represent at least 80% of the blend and may be supplemented by additional grape varieties. Within the Val de Montferrand PGI appellation, the wines of Domaine de l'Hortus are particularly noteworthy.
