“Known for being home to the woodcock, this estate also boasts Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan vines, whose fruit stood out in the tastings to earn three stars. The tasters immediately highlighted the wine’s full-bodied and velvety structure, which indicates aging potential while offering immediate enjoyment thanks to the finesse of its vanilla and toasty notes. Power, generosity, and a harmonious progression that brings red fruits to the forefront, followed by licorice, whose sweetness marks the finish: a grand finale.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017)

About the wine:
Known for being home to the woodcock, this estate also boasts Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan vines, whose fruit dominated the discussions and earned a three-star rating. The tasters immediately highlighted the wine’s full-bodied and velvety structure, which indicates aging potential while offering immediate enjoyment thanks to the finesse of its vanilla and toasty notes. Power, generosity, and a harmonious progression that brings red fruits to the forefront, followed by licorice, whose sweetness marks the finish: a grand finale.
About the estate:
Four generations have succeeded one another at this estate, which was founded in the early 20th century. In 1997, the estate built a winery in the hamlet of Cailhol. In 2006, Jeanne and Christian Gautran handed the estate over to their son Nicolas and his wife Olivia, who launched the L'Enclos des Bécasses label in 2013. The vineyard (55 ha) is located in the eastern part of the appellation, on the Causse du Haut Minervois—the favorite hunting ground of the current owner’s grandfather.

A beautiful, deep, glossy color is accompanied by a nose full of dark fruit. The palate is concentrated, supple, and well-balanced, with extraordinary length. One of the finest wines I've purchased on this site!

This wine is well-balanced and should age well; however, it isn't particularly aromatic, and I don't think the 3*** Hachette rating is justified.

A truly beautiful Minervois—complex, with lovely minerality and a long, oaky finish. Excellent value for the price.

I'm surprised by the previous review! That bottle had a corked taste! The Minervois producers are really trying hard, and there's no denying the progress they've made lately. Personally, I think it's a nice wine—just make sure to open it a good hour before tasting. You can detect notes of peppery berries against a backdrop of thyme. It's perfect with grilled meats.

Red fruit, velvety on the palate, spices and hints of vanilla and licorice—a wonderful discovery. Highly recommended for your next visit.
