"A great introduction"
This typical Languedoc blend transports us to the scents of the garrigue, enhanced by notes of sweet spices and generous red fruits. The wine is built around a perfectly balanced structure, notably with a pleasant freshness and controlled structure. A gentle invitation to travel...

Wine rated 92/100 (2019 vintage)
Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Château de Cazeneuve is an old building dating back to the 9th century. The vineyards, which fell into disuse at the beginning of the 20th century, were taken over by André Leenhardt, who cultivates 25 hectares in the Pic Saint-Loup area. André produces some lovely white wines. The good news is that the small 2017 Les Calcaires cuvée heralds a shift towards wines that are dense, energetic, and refined. This highly successful wine perfectly expresses the minerality that this type of soil brings to the classic Languedoc grape varieties. We were very impressed.

About the estate:
The Château de Cazeneuve, an old 9th-century building, stands at the heart of the estate purchased by André Leenhardt in 1988 after completing his studies in agronomy. Replanting, leaving the cooperative, converting to organic farming (certified in 2010): André Leenhardt is now one of the iconic winemakers of Pic Saint-Loup, at the head of a beautiful 35-hectare vineyard on clay-limestone soil.

A juicy wine with well-integrated tannins! Fruit and spices with some more complex animal notes.

On the nose: stable, leather, animal, dark fruit, and some roasted coffee beans. On the palate: dark fruit, bay leaf, green stems, spiciness, but also that stable again. I was actually expecting a bit more sun-dried fruit and some garrigue, but that's practically absent. Fine tannins and acids that provide grip and tension. Medium body and ditto finish. I had expected a bit more. Nevertheless, a wine with its own character and substance. But I've had better Cazeneuves in my glass. Score: 16/20
