Domaine Saint Daumary - Pic Saint-Loup L'Asphodèle 2023
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Irresistibly charming!"
“A Favorite three stars: this wine, aged in tanks and jars and blended with 20% Grenache and Syrah, comes close to perfection. No oak, then, but fruit—in a very juicy form—centered on blackcurrant coulis and subtly enhanced by Zinfandel. A body as full-bodied as one could wish for, a silky-smooth texture, tannins that blend seamlessly into the whole, and always that delicious, very pure fruitiness—almost irresistible. We bow in admiration.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Julien Chapel runs this low-key estate in Valflaunès, which often flies under the radar. We had the chance to taste the full range this year and must admit we were surprised by the depth of texture in the reds. We’ll be holding a more in-depth tasting next year, but in the meantime, be sure to check out these exceptional reds from the appellation.

About the wine:
A Favorite three stars: this wine, aged in tanks and jars and blended with 20% Grenache and Syrah, comes remarkably close to perfection. No oak here, just fruit—a very juicy expression centered on blackcurrant coulis and subtly enhanced by Zinfandel. A beautifully plump body, a silky-smooth texture, well-integrated tannins, and that same delicious, pure fruitiness that’s practically irresistible. We tip our hats to it.
About the estate:
Julien Chapel was the youngest winemaker in the Languedoc when he started out. He took over his father’s vineyards in 1999 at the age of just nineteen and left the cooperative winery. The vineyard (20 hectares) is organically farmed.
