Domaine Comps
Domaine Comps is a family estate located in Puisserguier, with roots dating back to the late 19th century. Pierre Comps was 17 years old in 1937 when he took over the family business, which covered nearly 6 hectares. With his determination and expertise (as well as the help of his wife Juliette), he built Domaine Comps into what it is today. Syrah vines planted in the 1970s enabled him to start producing higher quality wine.
Domaine Comps' AOC plots are located in the most limestone-rich area of the appellation. The filtering properties of this soil ensure that the vines thrive, their roots plunging deep into the earth to draw out the nutrients necessary for their development. In order to extract the very best from grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, the estate practices yields of around 30 hectoliters per hectare.
Domaine Comps has opted for sustainable agriculture in order to produce high-quality grapes while applying more environmentally friendly methods. Respect for traditional practices is more than just a method here; it is a true philosophy. This is evident in the manual harvesting, careful vinification, very gentle pressing using traditional methods (hydraulic press), successive aging in casks and barrels, and bottling at the estate itself.
