Domaine Comps
Domaine Comps is a family-owned estate located in Puisserguier, with roots dating back to the late 19th century. In 1937, at the age of 17, Pierre Comps took over the family vineyard, which covered nearly 6 hectares. Through his determination and expertise—as well as the support of his wife, Juliette—he built Domaine Comps into what it is today. Syrah vineyards planted as early as the 1970s enabled him to begin producing higher-quality wine.
Domaine Comps’ AOC plots are located in the most limestone-rich area of the appellation. The filtering properties of this soil ensure the vines thrive, as their roots delve deep into the earth to draw the nutrients necessary for their growth. To extract the very best from grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, the estate maintains yields of around 30 hectoliters per hectare.
Domaine Comps has chosen to practice sustainable agriculture to produce high-quality grapes while employing the most environmentally sound methods. Here, respect for ancestral practices is more than just a method—it is a true philosophy. Hand-harvesting, meticulous winemaking, very gentle traditional pressing (using a hydraulic press), aging in large casks followed by barrel aging, and bottling right on the estate are all testament to this philosophy.
