Wine rated (2026 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Bastingage stands out with its very fine, delicate texture. Light in body, it expresses an elegant bitterness drawn from its Angevin terroirs.

About the estate:

It’s impossible not to be impressed by the bold wines of Terre de l’Élu (formerly Clos de l’Élu before the AOP Anjou designation was discontinued in 2019). Since settling in Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné in 2008, Charlotte and Thomas Carsin have established themselves as some of the most creative winemakers in the entire Loire Valley. With over 25 hectares of vineyards, varied schist soils, and seven grape varieties—a diversity of elements that would daunt any new winemaker—the couple has turned these challenges into a strength, cultivating the distinct identities of unique cuvées born from this terroir rooted in the Armorican Massif. Some traditional palates may find them a bit confusing at times, but who cares! These wines will not leave you indifferent.

About the wine:

The 2023 Bastingage is round and full-bodied. It exhibits a slight oxidative note with a hint of rustic tones, yet it is well-balanced, with body and roundness. The overall impression is harmonious and flavorful, with well-integrated phenolic compounds.
