"A serious wine, the 2014 Prestige lacks neither vitality nor length. Its generosity and depth make it an excellent wine, surpassing previous vintages of this cuvée in finesse and richness of structure. Highly recommended!" (The 2016 Guide to Wine Bargains - Gerbelle & Maurange)

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

On a more serious note, the 2014 Prestige lacks neither vigor nor depth; it is more generous and well-rounded than the austere 2013, and should even surpass the robust 2012 in finesse.

About the estate:

A historic estate with a long tradition of organic farming (spanning over forty years), which Stéphane Guion, 43, has continued to cultivate in this vein following in the footsteps of his father, a mixed-crop farmer. In the town of Benais, where he relocated his winery, he produces Cabernet Francs with higher acidity than average and finer tannins. His Prestige cuvée (a selection of vines between thirty and eighty years old), with notes of black fruit and pencil lead, offers a taut and sharp palate in its youth, with depth and energy. A Bourgueil with an invigorating frankness but at times austere. The wines reflect their terroirs well, but we would prefer a slightly more subtle aging profile.

12 bottles enjoyed between 2016 and 2017; a wine with fruit and depth that could age well, but it’s so delicious... Great value for the price

The nose is not very expressive. On the palate, it feels somewhat rough. There’s no fruitiness at all. Having tasted it two years apart, this wine hasn’t won me over and doesn’t give me much pleasure. It’s decent, but nothing more.

On the palate, it offers simple, varietal notes of bell pepper and red berries—not overly ripe, but clean and expressive.

A well-made wine with a clean, straightforward flavor and noticeable tannins. A lovely, unpretentious wine that pairs superbly with cold cuts. Good value for the price.
