"A superb Côte Roannaise, made even more exceptional by aging in amphorae"

Chez Muron is a richly structured and complex wine, with aromas of ripe red fruits and notes of fresh earth brought to the fore by amphora vinification. A delicious wine, full of freshness. It’s already enjoyable but will continue to improve over the next 2 or 3 years.

Rated estate (2026 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Stéphane Sérol is leading his estate on the path to excellence. The 34 hectares of vineyards showcase the Gamay grape, which truly comes into its own here on the granite and porphyry soils. Combined with meticulous, biodynamic viticulture, this estate stands out for its carefully crafted, hand-harvested wines. The various wines offer a fresh structure and rich, indulgent flavors, particularly the “Les Millerands” cuvée, which is well worth aging in the cellar. A sure bet for great, enjoyable wines.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

A talented ambassador for the revival of the local wine region, Stéphane Sérol took over this 37-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) in 1998. The estate’s origins date back to 1700, and his father, Robert, began building its reputation as early as 1971 by selling wine directly to consumers by the bottle. A (very) reliable choice from the Côte Roannaise.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100 (2022 vintage)

Rated Estate (2026 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Carine and Stéphane Sérol have never brought out the best in Gamay Saint-Romain and the Côte Roannaise quite like they do now. Grown on sandy and granite terroirs at high altitudes (380 to 520 meters), their reds showcase the grape variety’s delicately smoky, floral, and airy character. Grown on high-density vineyards (8,000 to 10,000 vines per hectare), the grapes are partially or even completely destemmed before being gently vinified. The progress made over the past decade has been remarkable, and the wines have never better captured the identity of their terroirs. Of particular note is the added refinement in the whites.
