Wine rated (2027 guide) 92/100 (2024 vintage)

Rated estate (2027 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Stéphane Sérol is leading his estate on the path to excellence. The 34 hectares of vineyards showcase the Gamay grape, which truly comes into its own here on the granite and porphyry soils. Combined with meticulous, biodynamic viticulture, this estate stands out for its carefully crafted, hand-harvested wines. The various wines offer a fresh structure and rich, indulgent flavors, particularly the “Les Millerands” cuvée, which is well worth aging in the cellar. A sure bet for great, enjoyable wines.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2027 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

A talented ambassador for the revival of the local wine region, Stéphane Sérol took over this 38-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) in 1998. The estate’s origins date back to 1700, and his father, Robert, began building its reputation as early as 1971 by selling wine directly to consumers by the bottle. It is a must-visit destination on the Roanne coast.

Wine rated (2027 guide) 90/100 (2024 vintage)

Rated estate (2027 guide): 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, belong in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Never have Gamay Saint-Romain and the Côte Roannaise shone as brightly as they have under the stewardship of Carine and Stéphane Sérol. From these sandy, granite-rich terroirs at elevations ranging from 380 to 520 meters, the grape variety draws a delicately smoky, floral, and airy character. Sourced from high-density vineyards (8,000 to 10,000 vines per hectare), the grapes are partially or even completely destemmed before being gently vinified. Eclat de Granite perfectly embodies the spirit of a cheerful, bistro-style red. The characteristics of the specific vineyard sites—Oudan, Perdrizière—are perfectly defined. The “Chez” range pushes the boundaries of Saint-Romain Gamay through a seven-month maceration and aging in amphorae: wines that exude the freshness of granite, with a distinctive fruit profile (blueberry, smoky notes), always very lively and easy to drink.
