Giennois hillsides
The origins of this vineyard lie in the presence of numerous abbeys in the region. The occupation of the Château de Gien by the Count of Gien and the future King Charles VII contributed significantly to the development of the vineyards. Coteaux du Giennois is a wine produced from Gien to Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. This vineyard obtained its AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) relatively late, in 1998. To claim the appellation, white wines must be made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Red and rosé wines are made from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes.
