Hills of Gien
The origins of this vineyard can be traced to the many abbeys in the region. The occupation of the Château de Gien by the Count of Gien and the future King Charles VII played a significant role in the development of the vineyards. Coteaux du Giennois is a wine produced from Gien to Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. This vineyard received its AOP designation relatively late, in 1998. To qualify for the appellation, white wines must be made from Sauvignon Blanc. Red and rosé wines are produced from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir.
