Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 1 (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
This 2014 vintage captivates with its intense nose, balancing smoky notes with yellow fruit. On the palate, these same aromas unfold, enriched by riper notes of peach and apricot. A mineral finish adds three-dimensional depth.
About the estate:
In the Muscadet region, Frédéric Lailler continues to make strides forward, cultivating his ten-hectare estate using organic methods. The quality of his vineyards is truly impressive (six hectares on the gabbro soils of Gorges and one hectare in the granite-rich area of Clisson). The average age of the vineyard is around 65 years. Priced between 7 and 14 euros, you’ll want to act fast to build up a solid cellar stock.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
A fine example of the 2014 vintage, fresh and lively. A hint of sulfur will dissipate after decanting. Cool, briny flavors stimulate the nose and palate. Still energetic, it develops honeyed notes as it ages. Best enjoyed with a meal!
About the estate:
Frédéric Lailler kept the estate’s name as a tribute to its former owner, Michel Brégeon, who, in 2011, handed over his vineyards—with vines averaging 65 years old—spanning the Clisson (granite) and Gorges (gabbro) regions. Two village wines showcased in flavorful, relaxed whites, made invigorating by their dynamic richness—a far cry from the restrained Muscadets.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 92/100
Rated 3-star estate (Wine producer recommended by Wine Enthusiast)
About the wine:
Produced from the Gorges Cru vineyard in Muscadet, this wine has now reached maturity and demonstrates just how well a great Muscadet can age, although it still has significant potential for further development. It has lost some of its fruitiness but gained a creamy, nutty character. Moreover, its acidity and freshness remain intact.

What a wonderful find! A bit reserved on the nose when first opened, but much more aromatic the next day. On the palate, it’s well-structured with lovely body, but you can tell this bottle hasn’t reached its full potential yet—I’m placing another order. The next one will be opened in a year or so… if I can resist the urge to open another one!

It’s quite good, though it doesn’t quite reach the heights that Muscadets are capable of, but for the price, it’s a pleasant drink.
