Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 1 (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
In the Muscadet region, Frédéric Lailler continues to make strides, cultivating his ten-hectare estate using organic methods. The quality of his vineyards is truly impressive (six hectares on the gabbro soils of Gorges and one hectare in the granite-rich area of Clisson). The average age of the vineyard is around 65 years. Priced between 7 and 14 euros, you’ll want to act fast to build up a solid wine collection.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 92/100 Favorite
Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
Muscadet wines offer lovely notes of yellow fruit with a hint of butter, a distinctive character that is uncommon in the region. A touch of minerality adds an extra dimension to this fine Gorges.
About the estate:
Frédéric Lailler kept the estate’s name as a tribute to its former owner, Michel Brégeon, who, in 2011, handed over his vineyards—with vines averaging 65 years old—spanning the Clisson (granite) and Gorges (gabbro) regions. Two village wines showcased in flavorful, relaxed whites, whose dynamic richness makes them invigorating—a far cry from the restrained Muscadets.

It finishes with a lovely attack and a crisp acidity that will develop aromas over time, much like a fine Burgundy. This wine can be aged for about ten years without any problem.
