Frédéric Mabileau
Domaine Frédéric Mabileau has a 27-hectare vineyard in production. Recognizing the importance of sustainable agriculture, he decided in 2007 to convert his entire vineyard to organic farming, a decision that has since been recognized with ECOCERT certification. In August 2020, Frédéric Mabileau died suddenly in a microlight accident.

The Domaine Frédéric Mabileau is situated on terroir composed mainly of sand and gravel. A large proportion of the vines, ranging from 35 to 50 years old, have deep root systems that allow them to draw nutrients from deep within the soil. On the gently sloping hillsides, the wines are more opulent and structured. The neighboring Bourgueil, meanwhile, features clayier soils that produce wines with more body.

Committed to preserving the integrity of the grapes from vine to tank, Domaine Frédéric Mabileau harvests the entire vineyard by hand and sorts the grapes on two successive sorting tables (before and after the destemmer). All these factors result in fuller-bodied grapes that ripen more fully, rebalancing the acidity to produce supple, round, and concentrated wines. A must-visit estate in Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil!
