Coulée de Serrant - Nicolas Joly

The Domaine de la Coulée de Serrant produces what is probably one of the finest white wines in the world. Nicolas Joly, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, cultivates his vineyard on legendary slopes with passion and reason, refusing to use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other weed killers. Coulée de Serrant is a high-quality estate and a true flagship for Loire Valley wines.

Coulée de Serrant is a single appellation contrôlée covering just 7 hectares. Located on very steep slopes overlooking the Loire, the Chenin vines are on average between 35 and 40 years old. The oldest, which are over 80 years old, provide the wood used to make new vines that carry the originality of the place. Partly cultivated by horse or by hand, the average yield is 20/25 hectoliters per hectare. The very thin soil lies on a bed of sloping red schist, which provides perfect drainage for the Savennières Coulée de Serrant vines. The slopes are mainly south/southeast facing. The harvest takes place in five stages over three to four weeks to obtain the most colorful ripeness possible and the most pronounced botrytis. Nicolas Joly's estate also offers Savennières Roche aux Moines, whose quality is on par with the other vintages.
