Coulée de Serrant - Nicolas Joly
Domaine de la Coulée de Serrant produces probably one of the finest white wines in the world. Nicolas Joly, a "biodynamist" from the very beginning, cultivates with passion and reason a vineyard with mythical slopes, excluding the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other weed killers. Coulée de Serrant is a top-quality estate, a true figurehead of Loire Valley wines.

Coulée de Serrant is an appellation contrôlée of just 7 hectares. Situated on steep slopes overlooking the Loire, the Chenin vines have an average age of 35 to 40 years. The oldest vines, over 80 years old, provide the wood for the new vines that contribute to the originality of the area. Partly cultivated by horse or hand, the average yield is 20/25 hectolitres per hectare. The very shallow soil lies on a bed of sloping red schist that perfectly drains the Savennières Coulée de Serrant vines. The slopes are predominantly south/southeast-facing. Harvesting is carried out in 5 batches over 3 to 4 weeks, to obtain the most colorful ripeness possible and the most marked by botrytis. Nicolas Joly's estate also produces Savennières Roche aux Moines, whose quality is on a par with the other crus.

"A Grand Blanc de Loire of undeniable charm, to be forgotten for a few years in the cellar. Dazzling!"

This beautiful cuvée comes from a 5.5-hectare plot on steep slopes, and benefits from the same attentive care as the Coulée-de-Serrant. The nose reveals lovely aromas of ripe yellow fruit and dried fruit, while the palate is intense and powerful, offering great complexity and a remarkable finish...

"A pleasant wine serving Chenin and terroir!

Clos de la Bergerie is a blend of three parcels from La Roche aux Moines. It delivers with elegance, length and balance. On the palate, there's a remarkable minerality with powerful, voluptuous tannins.

"A true marvel for all discerning gourmets!

For the vinification of this vintage, the old cellar of the Vieux Serrant monastery was brought back into service after long years of disuse. La Coulée de Serrant was born there this year, a return to its roots!

"A few residual sugars don't detract from the saline vigor of the bitters: spicy profile of a slender frame in this wine with notes of kumquat, which seems to have gained in serenity and purity, but still austere and destined for glorious aging." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2017 - RVF) A true monument of the estate, an appellation in its own right, this is a cuvée not to be missed!

"Very fine expression of Chenin, with earthy gentian precision and classic dried apple aromas. Vibrant and spirited, jagged and powerful, the palate takes shape, then imposes itself." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - Gault Millau)
