Wine rated (2024 guide) 88/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The Brut remains a lively expression of sparkling Chenin, highlighted by a lovely freshness in 2021.

About the estate:

The unassuming Vincent Carême, also a producer of Steen (the local name for Chenin Blanc) in South Africa under the name Terre Brûlée (40,000 bottles per year), is now among the leading figures of the Vouvray appellation. On his 17.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc vines, spread across the flinty clay soils of Vernou-sur-Brenne and Nozay, meticulous organic farming (certified in 2007) yields healthy, vibrant grapes in the cellar. This forty-something winemaker is moving towards increasingly drier wines, but his Le Peu Morier and Tendre wines energetically integrate residual sugars, resulting in saline and flavorful whites. His exacting standards are taken even further with the introduction of biodynamic treatments; aging in old oak barrels (400 liters) is becoming increasingly precise. These are wines of exceptional quality.

Disappointed by the bitterness on the palate, which spoils the wine's finesse.
