Domaine Vincent Carême - Le Clos Moelleux 2009
17,5/20
RVF
“Sometimes off-dry (2008), sweet (2009), or dry (2010), the Chenin achieves full ripeness on this clay-limestone plot. ” (The World’s Best Chenins - RVF 2012) This cuvée, with its truffle-like notes, reveals a harmonious structure, balancing sweetness and acidity. Aromas of candied fruit develop into a remarkably balanced finish. Not to be missed!

Rated estate (2026 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
In Vouvray, Vincent Carême has established his brilliant style. Pure, precise, and luminous, the wines are priced between 15 and 20 euros and offer excellent value for money. The latest vintages are among the most accomplished of the estate and the appellation. Always noteworthy, the quality of the sparkling wines is worth mentioning, and the non-dosage brut is superb. You should place your order right away.

About the estate:
Established in 1999, the vineyard now spans 17 hectares cultivated using organic farming methods. Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
The 2009 sweet version of Le Clos is in no way inferior to the 2010 in terms of harmony; it is even more intense in its rich, smooth texture and truffle notes.
About the estate:
The unassuming Vincent Carême, who also produces Steen (the local name for Chenin) in South Africa under the Terre Brûlée label (40,000 bottles per year), is now one of the leading figures in the Vouvray appellation. Across 17.5 hectares of Chenin planted on the flinty clay soils of Vernou-sur-Brenne and Nozay, meticulous organic farming (certified in 2007) yields healthy, vibrant grapes in the cellar. This forty-something winemaker is moving toward increasingly dry wines, yet his Le Peu Morier and Tendre wines energetically incorporate residual sugars, offering salty and savory whites. His standards are pushed even further with the introduction of biodynamic practices; aging in old barrels (400 L) is becoming increasingly precise. These wines are meticulously crafted.
