Quinta Do Pessegueiro
Overlooking the Douro River, in the heart of the Douro Valley, the Quinta Do Pessegueiro combines tradition and modernity. Acquired in 1991 by the renowned children's fashion designer Roger Zannier, the impressive, technologically advanced, and architecturally striking winery has helped elevate the quality of the estate's wines Quinta Do Pessegueiro.
At the helm of this true architectural gem—and of the unique terroir of the Upper Douro—are Marc Monrose, who is also the director of Château Saint-Maur in the Côtes de Provence, and João Nicolau de Almeida, who comes from a long line of renowned winemakers in the region. Quinta do Pessegueiro consists of three plots that each contribute distinct nuances: Pessegueiro, Teixeira, and Afurada. The land and vineyards are tended in accordance with tradition and exclusively by hand, using a variety of grape varieties, some of which are native to the region.
The state-of-the-art winery is built on three levels and equipped with a lift cage that allows the juice to be transported upward and processed by gravity, thereby protecting the wine from any jostling. A true terroir for red wines, the wines produced at Quinta do Pessegueiro are primarily red: the Aluzé range is available in both white and red; the flagship Quinta do Pessegueiro cuvée is produced exclusively as a red; and, finally, superb Port wines are produced as Late Bottle Vintage and Vintage in exceptional years.
