“Slightly richer than the 2015 (also released under the name Tinto, the estate’s red), while retaining the same tannic structure and a sense of freshness, it is also beautifully textured, with a velvety sensation on the palate. It also retains a sophisticated and magnificent finesse on the mid-palate. It has extraordinary potential—one of the best wines I know from the estate, if not Noval’s finest table wine.” (Wine Advocate 2018 – Mark Squires)

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2019 guide) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The 2016 Reserva, renamed from the former Estate Tinto and featuring only “Quinta do Noval” on the label, is a blend of 60% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, and other minor grape varieties, all aged for ten months in French oak barrels that have previously held other wines (only 35% new). It has an alcohol content of 14%. Slightly richer than the 2015 (also rebranded as Tinto, the estate’s red), while retaining the same tannic structure and a sense of freshness, it is also beautifully textured, with a velvety sensation on the palate. It also retains a sophisticated and magnificent finesse on the mid-palate. It has extraordinary potential—one of the best I know from the estate, if not Noval’s finest table wine. For me, the balance is slightly better than that of the 2015. Carlos Agrellos said he preferred it, and he’s right—if only by a narrow margin. Competition will be fierce over the next two decades, and this assessment may change for these wines, which are very powerful in their youth. It’s worth revisiting this beauty in a while, but take note—this rating reflects its unrealized potential, as it had only been bottled for about two weeks. It should age very well. At some point, it will need to be re-rated.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
It offers a wide range of ripe black berries on the palate, with tannins that give it body. It still needs some time to age in the bottle. Try it starting in 2024.
