Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
The estate is managed by Michel Bronzo, supported by Stéphane Bourret, technical director and discerning taster. In just a few years, the estate has come very close to the appellation's historical leaders. The consistency and intensity of its wines are the result of meticulous work, from vineyard to cellar, combined with a deep understanding of the terroir. La Bastide Blanche is planted on red clay soils, where the Fontanéou cuvée is made, and on stony clay soils for the Estagnol cuvée. The wines have a poised, earthy, and deeply rooted character.

About the estate:
A benchmark estate, created in 1972 by Baptistin Bronzo and his son Michel from 10 hectares of vines. Expanded and completely restructured, the vineyard now covers 48 hectares, laid out in terraces at the foot of Le Castellet and cultivated biodynamically. The Bronzo family also leases the Château des Baumelles (10 hectares in Saint-Cyr) and the Château du Castillon (8 hectares in Le Castellet).

About the estate:
This estate, purchased in 1973 by Louis and Michel Bronzo, produces serious wines in all three colors, combining power and finesse. The fragmented 47-hectare vineyard, primarily terraced, allows it to encompass the diverse geological features of the Bandol terroir. Stéphane Bourret, in charge of winemaking, produces robust reds, more earthy than maritime, exemplified by the two flagship wines: Fontanéou (4,000 bottles per year), born from red clay soils facing due east in La Cadière-d'Azur, a blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache, is elegant; Estagnol (5,000 bottles per year), from clay-limestone soils interspersed with gravelly areas, offers a very ripe and opulent character. Made mainly from Clairette and Ugni Blanc, the white is undoubtedly the most consistent and harmonious of the appellation. The older vintages available for sale allow you to enjoy the undeniable potential of the estate's wines.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Posted on June 12, 2024
A Bandol of incredible elegance and vibrant character. In this 2023 vintage, the acidity remains perfectly balanced, with aromas that have grown in intensity and rich flavors of redcurrant, strawberry coulis, nectarine, and citron, enhanced by a hint of spice, enveloping the palate with a texture that is both luscious and melt-in-the-mouth. A savory finish leads to a long, lingering aftertaste with a briny freshness. This beautiful gastronomic rosé pairs wonderfully with a traditional Marseille bouillabaisse. Remarkable aging potential. Rating = 4.2.
