A lovely fruitiness unfolds on the palate, full of freshness, revealing tart red berries, citrus notes, and a subtly spicy, licorice-tinged finish. It’s an excellent introduction to the wine. A rosé that will be your perfect summer companion—and offers superb value for the price!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Located just 900 meters from the sea, this family-owned estate of nearly 80 hectares sold its entire production in bulk until Yannick Burles arrived in 2012 as technical director. Most of the production is now bottled on the estate, producing fine vintages, and year after year the wines are improving admirably. The vineyard is being carefully restructured, which bodes well for the future of this rising star of the La Londe appellation, which is now contributing to the dynamic growth of wines from this town with undeniable potential. The current team is making the wines shine.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

This vineyard, whose existence has been documented since the 16th century, became the property of the Carthusian Fathers of La Verne in 1588. In 1855, Horace Vernet, the official painter to Napoleon III, acquired it and built a château on the estate. In 1920, it was purchased by the Faré family, who still own the property today. They resumed bottling at the estate in 2010 and, in 2018, entrusted the management of its 65 hectares of vineyards to Julie Barneau and Christophe Deffilippi.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on September 30, 2024

The Grenache-Cinsault blend—with Cinsault making up the majority—produces a rosé that is slightly less powerful than the 2022 vintage, yet remains just as smooth and sensual. It beautifully combines fullness, freshness, and sweetness with distinctly fruity aromas reminiscent of redcurrants and fresh strawberries, complemented by subtle spices and a hint of candy. The creamy, caressing texture is supported by a delicate mineral backbone, the intensity of which is accentuated by a pleasant salinity on the finish. A beautiful pairing with bouillabaisse, paella, and of course Mediterranean red mullet on a bed of tomatoes, capers, and black olives. Score = 3.9.
