Bettane & Desseauve

(2016 Vintage Notes)

Inspired by the angels of the Chapel at Château d'Esclans, the Whispering Angel cuvée is the result of a partnership with carefully selected local winemakers who provide the highest quality grapes. It boasts a beautiful texture, fragrant with notes of white peach and exotic fruits (mango), and underpinned by a mineral backbone.

Wine rated 14.5/20 (2016 vintage) (Good wine)

Rated estate (2018 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

This estate has been owned since 2006 by Sacha Lichine, the former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux. He has taken a hands-on approach to winemaking, working with Patrick Léon (formerly of Mouton-Rothschild) to produce wines of exceptional quality. Their Garrus cuvée is likely the most expensive Provence rosé on the market.

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

A renowned match manufacturer in Marseille during the 1850s, Joseph Toussaint Caussemille was one of the many owners of Château d'Esclans and gave his name to this estate, which is dominated by a 19th-century building inspired by Tuscan villas and built on the ruins of a medieval castle. Sacha Lichine, son of the late Alexis Lichine, former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine, took over this 267-hectare estate (including 44 hectares of vineyards) in 2006; it is renowned for its oak-aged rosés.
