Château d'Esclans
The Domaine d'Esclans is an exceptional site that dates back to Gallic times. It was used to observe the Gulf of Fréjus to prevent maritime invasions. The Château d'Esclans cellars are very old! The current foundations date back to 1201, and it was in the mid-19th century that the present château was built, inspired by the architecture of Tuscan villas. Before becoming the property of Sacha Lichine, Château d'esclans had a number of owners. It first belonged to the Ranque brothers, then to Joseph Toussaint Caussemille in 1875. Before passing into Sacha Lichine's hands, it belonged to the Perraud family from 1955 to 1944.

Today, the world's best rosés are produced in this area. In 2006, rosé wine production volumes were still very low. What's more, consumption was mainly French. Since the arrival of Sacha Lichine in Provence, rosé wine from Esclans has enjoyed worldwide renown. This native of Bordeaux is considered the originator of top-of-the-range rosé wines!

For a very long time, Sacha Lichine was looking for a southern vineyard in which he could express himself, before finding his happiness in Provence. During his many travels, particularly in England, he noticed that many women enjoyed rosé champagne. He then had the idea of creating an atypical rosé wine.

Château d'Esclans: a privileged geographical location

Located in an exceptional area of the Var, Château d'Esclans has been owned since 2006 by Sacha Lichine - a Bordeaux wine merchant and owner of Château Prieuré Lichine until 1999.

With its 44ha of hillside vineyards, Château d'Esclans has become a local landmark. It stands out for its old Grenache vines, the majority of which are planted in the vineyard.

Château d'esclans is located in the heart of Provence. As a result, the pomegranates are fresher and the cinsaults much fruitier. The estate's excellent vineyards produce a wine that is finer than Tavel wines, which have a very acidic taste. Sacha Lichine also uses modern oenological techniques to preserve his great rosé. He protects his wines from oxidation and cold, and controls fermentation temperatures. He is also accompanied by his consultant oenologist Patrick Léon, who keeps a close eye on the wine's paleness.

Exceptional vintages

Cuvée Garrus is made from grapes grown on 90-year-old vines. As a result, the grapes are more concentrated in aroma. Selected from the best plots on the estate, the berries are harvested at noon sunrise. What's more, Garrus cuvées undergo no fermentation, but alcoholic fermentation in demi-muids. Garrus is a great wine that requires a lot of work: vinification, bâtonnage during ageing, bottles created for each cuvée, etc.

We also appreciate the gourmet aromas and full-bodied taste of Cuvée Les Clans. This wine pairs perfectly with the most refined dishes.

Sacha Lichine produces some of the world's finest rosés and atypical crus that are snapped up by top restaurants and hotels. All the wine ranges are unique and make the reputation of Château d'Esclans rosé.
