"Don't miss it!"

“A new vintage from this estate, the 2018 Cairanne comes entirely from hillside plots and is composed of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah. It offers a superb profile—full-bodied and alluring—with abundant aromas and flavors of blue and black fruits, licorice, and bouquet garni. It is a pure, balanced wine and a very interesting barrel-aged example.” (Jeb Dunnuck)

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah, Michel & Tina Gassier’s 2018 Cairanne offers a stunning combination of dried herbs—mint, bay leaf, and rosemary—and tart red berries. It is medium-bodied, silky, and expressive, with a lovely texture that lingers into the slightly tannic finish. It should be ready to drink in 4 to 5 years.

Selected Estates (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

With a highly pragmatic approach and sound principles, Michel Gassier restructured the vineyard and gave himself the means to produce fine wines, both white and red. The prestigious vintages named Joseph Torrès reach their full potential after one to three years in the bottle, while the other wines can be enjoyed right from their earliest days.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on June 5, 2022

Domaine GASSIER offers a lovely Cairanne with a full-bodied, rich character, yet with tannins so fine and velvety that it reveals great depth and density of pure, juicy red and black fruit. The small percentage of Syrah adds pleasant spicy flavors, highlighted by black pepper, licorice, and violet notes that lend extraordinary freshness and lightness to the finish. Like the estate’s other wines, this Cairanne is also appealing for its attractive price. After decanting, pair it with a matured Simmental ribeye steak and house-made fries cooked in duck fat.
