“Great power, sumptuous depth—the finest Mont-Redon in a long time—magnificent intensity, very fine tannins, rich spices, length and aromatic persistence, and extraordinary depth. It ranks among the glorious vintages, alongside the 1995 and the ever-exceptional 1961.” (The Bettane + Desseauve Guide 2023)

Wine rated (2023 guide) 96/100

Rated estate (2023 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Great power, sumptuous depth—the finest Mont-Redon in a long time—magnificent intensity, very fine tannins, rich spices, length and aromatic persistence, and extraordinary depth. It ranks among the great vintages, alongside the 1995 and the ever-exceptional 1961.

About the estate:

Mont-Redon is a vast estate comprising about 100 hectares of vineyards in Châteauneuf (out of a total of 150 planted hectares), occupying a large portion of the plateau of rounded pebbles that bears the estate’s name, as well as a section planted directly across from the estate. Alongside the long-standing flagship red Châteauneuf, a superb single-vineyard selection, Le Plateau, has emerged. While never ranking among the appellation’s most spectacular wines, this vintage ages exceptionally well and exudes a quiet, full-bodied character. The family also produces high-quality whites, numerous Côtes-du-Rhône wines, and owns a property in Lirac.

Rated wine (2022 guide) 92/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The best "standard" Mont-Redon I can recall, the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is wonderfully full-bodied yet silky and harmonious, while the nose offers soft notes of garrigue and purple raspberries. The tannins on the finish are supple, and the flavors add cola-like spice notes to the minty finish.

Rated: Recommended

About the wine:

An enchanting and complex nose of red berries, tobacco leaf, licorice, and delicate spices. The palate is deeply sensual, rich, and refined, with a palette of nuances one could spend hours exploring. A superb interplay of ripe fruit with notes of raw meat and smoked bacon. A very long, silky finish that invites the next sip.

The wine is still too young; it hasn’t fully developed yet, and the drinking experience is somewhat underwhelming. It needs to age further, but the potential is there. The rating has been raised; the wine has now fully developed and is a real pleasure to drink.
