“A truly great vintage!”
"Beautiful fruit notes such as blackberry and black cherry, along with peppery hints of garrigue, camphor, violet, and spices, emerge from the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Habemus Papam, a classic, balanced, pure, and elegant Châteauneuf that offers a lovely sensation of freshness and purity while displaying plenty of character. Made from 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, partially destemmed and aged in large oak casks and clay jars, it will benefit from 2 to 4 years of bottle aging and will keep for about ten years.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2021)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Benjamin Gras follows in the footsteps of his father, Yves, and crafts with equal skill a range of deep, elegant single-vineyard wines, in which the purity of the fruit reflects a true obsession. A refined style, in which the wines sacrifice a bit of richness and concentration in favor of a very pure delicacy. In Gigondas as in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the wines have a distinctive style that will leave no one indifferent.

Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
This easy-drinking wine is smooth, fresh yet ripe, and above all, incredibly approachable. It is beautifully balanced, savory, and lively, despite a hint of prune that emerges. (RVF Magazine No. 656 - 2021-2022)
About the estate:
Yves Gras took the reins of this iconic Gigondas estate in 1985. He established a full-bodied, robust style that was nonetheless refined, and international recognition followed immediately. Several projects enhanced the estate: the restoration of Clos Derrière Vieille in 1994; and the acquisition of prime terroirs in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 2009: Saintes Pierres, La Crau Ouest, Le Pied de Baud, Les Pradel, and La Font du Pape. In 2017, the arrival of Benjamin, the son, brought a new dynamic and a stylistic shift. The wines still display the same breed and power, but now possess more infused textures. They offer a palate with diffuse power and more graceful tactile sensations. The oak is also better integrated. The estate practices biodynamics; winemaking is carried out using indigenous yeasts, whole-cluster fermentation is used in part, and the wines are not filtered before bottling. The uniqueness of each cuvée led us to award the estate its first star upon its inclusion in the guide.

From a great vintage, "Nous avons un pape" is a remarkable success, bursting with red and purple fruit jam-like flavors, enhanced by peppery spices, fresh herbs, and hints of licorice that tantalize a lively, full-bodied, and surprisingly fresh palate, enveloped in a creamy texture of incredible finesse. The young, firm tannins, with understated oak, are refined and enveloping. They would benefit from a little more aging. A long finish that lingers with savory notes, followed by subtle hints of kirsch. The wine benefits from being decanted for 2 hours before serving. For Father’s Day, it was the perfect pairing for aged Aubrac beef ribs, seared and lightly caramelized over a bed of vine shoot embers. Rating = 4.5.

A great bottle to cell and keep for a few years, but it’s already very good.
