Domaine de Poulvarel - Costières de Nîmes Les Perrottes 2023
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"A real treat!"
"At work here are 60-year-old vines and grapes fermented half by carbonic maceration. After 12 months in barrels and vats, it presents a nose of vanilla and cocoa that envelops the black fruit. The palate is rich but fresh, underpinned by perfectly extracted velvety tannins and noble oak with bittersweet flavors of dark chocolate and paprika. Definitely worth cellaring." Winery rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, consistent with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
In 2004, Pascal Glas decided to take over the family vineyards after more than twenty years of winemaking in cooperative cellars in the south of France. Located on the northwestern edge of the Costières de Nîmes appellation, he crafts honest, straightforward wines with exemplary balance and purity of fruit. The wines are refreshing with beautiful depth of fruit, without ever being overdone.

About the estate:
Pascal Glas and his wife Élisabeth took over the family estate in 2004 after the closure of the Sernhac cooperative. Today, they cultivate a 45-hectare vineyard and produce Costières-de-Nîmes wines that regularly feature in these pages, as well as an IGP. Certified HVE since 2014, the estate is in the process of converting to organic farming.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 12/20/2025
A blend of old vines coupled with beautiful aging reveals a delicious, generous palate that is perfectly juicy and full-bodied, with ripe black fruit and spice notes, enveloped in velvety, coating tannins. Offers good value for money. Always a pleasure alongside pork chops marinated in sage and rosemary, accompanied by Provençal ratatouille. Rating = 4.2.
