Domaine de Fontbonau - Côtes du Rhône 2012
16/20
Bettane & Desseauve
“The subtle nose of blackcurrant and blackberry still has room to develop, while the rich, opulent palate finishes with superb spice notes. A truly outstanding vintage. ” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2017) The estate’s “Grand Vin” is precise, both powerful and taut, yet also delightfully indulgent. A fine balance between the classicism of 2010 and the sunny character of 2011.

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2017 guide) 16/20 + Editor's Choice (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2017 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the wine:
The subtle nose of blackcurrant and blackberry still has room to develop, while the rich, opulent palate finishes with superb spicy notes. A truly outstanding vintage.
About the estate:
Owned by Frédéric Engerer, director of François Pinault’s estates (including, of course, Château Latour), and Jérôme Malet, who runs the Sarda-Malet estate in Roussillon, Fontbonau is gradually establishing itself as a benchmark in the Drôme Provençale. The estate produces a white wine made from 90% Roussanne and a small amount of Viognier, as well as two reds: Les-Chaux, the estate’s second wine, and the grand vin.
