Le Clos des Saumanes 2010
1*Étoile
Hachette
89/100
Robert Parker
"The 2010 Côtes-du-Rhône offers an interesting profile with lovely notes of flowers, mint, and lavender, which give way to hints of strawberry, pepper, and chili upon aeration. This medium-bodied 2010 has great fruit, remarkable acidity, and a flawless finish; everything suggests it will drink well over the next 4 to 5 years. It’s a safe bet, to be enjoyed now through 2017.” (Wine Advocate 2013 – Robert Parker)

Rated estate (2013 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the wine:
At the helm of the estate since 2008, a couple from Champagne was captivated by this clay-limestone terroir—covered in large pebbles and swept by the mistral—located in one of Provence’s oldest villages. Robert and Martine Janer make their debut in the Guide with this 2010 vintage, which is at once round, smooth, and well-structured, with a long finish laced with notes of stewed fruit and spices. Best enjoyed within the next two years with roasted poultry or, why not, a strawberry salad seasoned with a touch of pepper.

I must have just gotten two bad bottles, but I couldn't finish a single one. That wine ended up as mulled wine.

A simple, unpretentious Côtes du Rhône that holds its own and is relatively easy to drink.

This 2010 Clos des Saumanes is excellent to drink right now—it’s not at all heavy and has a lot of finesse.

Very good value for the price; it retains a bit of acidity, but it's quite pleasant when served slightly chilled.
